Viking Childhood

Hello again,

I’m really looking forward to reading your summary of life as a Viking boy or girl.
Don’t forget to write in full sentences, just as you would in your books, using correct grammar, punctuation and spelling. I will also be looking to see who can include embedded clauses, personification, expanded ‘ed’ clauses as starters.

Hello Year 5,

I have started to write a poem about a Viking battle. I’ve tried to make it sound scary and fierce to represent the atmosphere of a battle. Can you help me by improving my first verse and completing the poem?

Please include the features of poetry that we have been learning about. I will be looking for alliteration, similes, metaphors, repetition, personification and onomatopoeia!

Fierce, gruesome, ferocious,

The air is filled with gun shots and thunder,

As fast as lightening, the shields dive to protect their warrior,

Bang! Crash!

The battle rages on.

I’m really looking forward to reading your poems.

The Vikings are Coming!!!

Hello Everyone!

Welcome back to our blog.

This Spring term we have been learning all about the Vikings. We have found out where the Vikings came from and why they came to Britain. We have been writing in the role of a Viking child and a Viking Leader.

Your challenge today is to use all this knowledge and put it into a piece of persuasive writing. Remember when we were writing letters of complaint before Christmas? You were super persuasive then! Well, I want you to write a letter persuading your fellow Vikings to join you over here in this green and pleasant land known as Britain!

Why should they come here? Why is it better than Scandanavia? What was your journey like over the sea? Add lots of detail and description to your writing and remember all those super sentences you’ve been adding to your writing? Well I want to see lots of those in your blog too!

Have fun blogging, I can’t wait to read them!

Miss Kelly :-)

For example, you might have been to a place that had lots of coast line and beaches, or to a built up city with tall buildings. You could also include any facts that you know about the place you visited.
